AI Scribe is a free, open-source SEO AI writer, content generator and humaniser for WordPress. It helps you turn an idea into an editable, search-focused article with OpenAI, Anthropic Claude or Google Gemini, with optional support for the WordPress 7 core AI client. AI Scribe is independently developed by Opace Digital Agency and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by OpenAI, Anthropic or Google. Version 3 keeps the whole article in one conversation, so later sections are written with the title, outline and existing copy in context. Use the guided 11-step Wizard for control at every stage, or Express mode for a complete first draft. AI Scribe supports the process; you remain responsible for checking, editing and approving everything before publication. Required Opace AI Hub The free Opace AI Hub is required at runtime. It stores provider keys, discovers models, supplies pricing and shares prompts. AI Scribe owns the writing interface and sends requests directly from your site through the Hub; nothing is routed through Opace's servers. Both plugins remain independently searchable and installable on WordPress.org. If AI Scribe is installed first, its Plugins row links directly to the branded setup screen, where installation and activation are two explicit actions. Image controls hide when no configured provider can generate images. The cost meter shows estimated, actual and running spend when trustworthy pricing is available. Review and Evaluate distinguish measured structure from editorial checks requiring human confirmation. Save as a draft, published post or reusable shortcode. Meta title, description and focus keywords are stored with the post and written to the first active Yoast SEO, Rank Math, AIOSEO or SEOPress integration. Standard post content works with the block and Classic Editors; shortcodes work in pages, posts, Divi, Elementor, widgets and ACF fields. Admin screens are responsive. Authors and above can write; Settings and Saved Shortcodes require an administrator. Generation endpoints require permission and a nonce. Prompts and article content are sent only to the provider you select, and provider API charges apply.

  1. Install and activate AI Scribe from the Plugins screen.
  2. On Complete AI-Scribe setup, review the Opace AI Hub details and choose Install Opace AI Hub, then Activate Opace AI Hub and continue. If Hub is already installed, the setup opens directly at the activation step.
  3. In Opace AI Hub → Settings, add an API key for at least one provider: OpenAI, Anthropic or Google Gemini.
  4. Open AI Scribe → Settings → Providers & Model. Check that your provider shows as configured, pick a model (Refresh models re-fetches the live list), then open Generate Article and start writing.
You can also install Hub first and choose Install AI-Scribe, then Activate AI-Scribe and continue, from its Add-ons screen. Upgrading from 2.6.x is a normal one-click update. If Hub is not present, AI Scribe opens the same setup screen instead of showing dependency errors; its generation screens and endpoints remain unavailable until setup is complete, and existing data stays untouched. Saved prompts, content settings, custom languages, saved shortcodes and API keys migrate after Hub activates, keys carried over from 2.6.x are encrypted at rest, and edited prompts are copied into Opace AI Hub's library.

Is AI Scribe free, and are there any other costs?

AI Scribe and the required Opace AI Hub are free, open-source WordPress plugins. The provider you choose charges separately for API usage under its own account, prices and terms. AI Scribe shows an estimate and running cost when the Hub has trustworthy pricing, but your provider account is the billing authority.

Do I really need Opace AI Hub?

Yes. The Hub stores keys, discovers models, records usage and supplies shared prompts. With Anthropic alone, writing works but image controls are hidden. Add OpenAI or Gemini for images; any mixture of the three providers works.

Where can I get and enter an API key?

Create a key in the provider account you want to use: OpenAI API keys, Anthropic Console keys or Google AI Studio keys. Enter it under Opace AI Hub → Settings, then test it there. Never post a key in a support request or paste it into an article prompt. Compatible WordPress 7 AI Connector credentials may also be used when that provider connector is installed and configured.

Which models are supported?

Whichever compatible writing and still-image models your configured OpenAI, Anthropic or Google Gemini account grants you. Models are fetched live and filtered by capability, so Settings is authoritative when providers change account access.

How many models were in the dated live snapshot?

The 23 August 2026 snapshot contained 102 AI Scribe-compatible identifiers:

  • 58 multimodal writing models: 45 OpenAI, 7 Anthropic and 6 Gemini.
  • 31 text and reasoning models: 17 OpenAI, 3 Anthropic and 11 Gemini.
  • 13 still-image models: 6 OpenAI and 7 Gemini. Anthropic returned no image-generation model.

How are models kept current?

The Hub requests the model list from each configured provider and caches it for one hour. AI Scribe filters that list to compatible writing and still-image capabilities. Use Refresh models to bypass the cache. A maintained Hub registry is only a fallback when live discovery is unavailable; your Settings screen is authoritative for your account.

How do tokens and model limits work?

Models process text as tokens, which may be whole words, parts of words, punctuation or spaces. In English, one token is often around four characters or three-quarters of a word, but this is only a rough estimate. A model's context limit must cover instructions, conversation history and output together. Limits vary by model and account, so shorten the requested article or choose a suitable model if a long request exceeds them.

How do costs and word targets work?

Provider charges normally depend on input/output tokens and, for images, the selected model and options. AI Scribe shows estimated, actual and running costs when trustworthy Hub pricing exists and says Cost unavailable otherwise. Choose Auto, a preset or a custom word target. Visible counts, preferred ranges and optional improvement requests never discard a usable draft after failure.

How can I customise and save prompts?

Edit the visible prompt at a Wizard step and choose Run amended prompt for a one-off request. Save a reusable AI Scribe step prompt in Settings, or apply a shared prompt from Opace AI Hub. A one-run amendment has highest priority; Custom Instructions are applied last. Your current result remains available if the amended request fails.

What are prompt placeholders?

Placeholders insert current article choices when a prompt runs. AI Scribe supports [Idea], [Title], [Selected Keywords], [Heading], [Outline], [Intro], [The Tagline], [above/below], [Language], [Style], [Tone], [No. Headings], [Heading Tag] and [Keywords to Avoid]. Keep the brackets and use placeholders that make sense for the step.

What are Custom Instructions?

Custom Instructions are reusable rules added to every writing request after the step prompt. Use them for brand terminology, preferred spelling, audience, formatting, phrases to avoid and non-negotiable editorial rules. They apply across OpenAI, Anthropic and Gemini rather than being limited to a particular ChatGPT model.

How do I keep the content aligned with my brand voice and tone?

Set the language, writing style, tone, spelling and writing mode under AI Scribe → Settings → Generation, then add precise brand rules to Custom Instructions. Give concrete examples of preferred wording and prohibited claims. Review the output because a model can still miss or misinterpret instructions.

What is the difference between the three writing modes?

Standard aims for clear, direct copy governed by your chosen style and tone. Humanizer encourages more varied sentence structure and natural phrasing. Humanizer with Personality permits a more distinctive, informal voice where appropriate. None can guarantee originality, search rankings or an AI-detector result.

What if I do not like the generated content?

Edit the result directly, select Regenerate, or change the visible prompt and choose Run amended prompt. You can also refine the saved prompt, style, tone or Custom Instructions for future runs. AI responses vary, so a second request may differ even without a prompt change; always keep and improve the best useful draft.

What if nothing appears, the result is incomplete or a request times out?

Check the provider-status chip and confirm that a valid live model is selected. Retry once; for repeated failures, refresh the model list, choose a faster model, request less content or ask your host about PHP and web-server time limits. AI Scribe retains an existing usable draft when a later improvement fails. Report persistent errors with the step and provider, but never include an API key or private article content.

Why did I see an "AI-Scribe model updated" notice after installing?

An upgrade or reinstall retained either the untouched legacy gpt-4o-mini default or a retired model. AI Scribe selects a current valid Hub default and names both models. It never replaces a valid model you explicitly saved.

What happens to my edited prompts when I upgrade?

They are copied once into the Hub's "AI-Scribe" group and linked to their steps. Originals remain as a backup, interrupted migration resumes, and an existing same-name Hub prompt is never overwritten.

Will my other 2.6 settings survive?

Yes. API keys, content settings, custom languages and saved shortcodes migrate automatically. Existing values are not overwritten. Carried-over keys are encrypted at rest in the Hub.

Are keyword search volumes measured?

No. Demand bands are marked as unverified AI estimates. Use the Google Trends links for relative interest and seasonality; they are not monthly-volume data.

What does Evaluate verify?

It measures structural facts from the final Review HTML, including images, alt markup, headings, table-of-contents anchors and links. Originality, authority and writing quality remain editorial judgements requiring human confirmation.

Do prompts, content or keys pass through Opace's servers?

No. Keys are managed by Opace AI Hub; requests go directly from your WordPress site to your chosen provider. AI Scribe only shows provider status and never renders keys into its page.

Does it work with SEO plugins and page builders?

Yes. It integrates with Yoast SEO, Rank Math, AIOSEO and SEOPress. Standard post content works with WordPress editors, while saved shortcodes work in Divi, Elementor, widgets and ACF fields.

How should I check originality and duplicate content?

Search distinctive passages and use an appropriate originality or plagiarism-checking service if your editorial process requires one. Add first-hand expertise, verify sources and rewrite generic sections. AI Scribe and its Humanizer modes cannot certify originality or promise how an AI detector will classify text.

Does uninstalling remove my data?

Only if you opt in through the delete-on-uninstall setting. Otherwise settings, conversations and saved shortcodes are retained.
