- Upload the plugin folder to
/wp-content/plugins/or install it from the WordPress plugins screen. - Activate ARN Smart Image Optimizer.
- Open the ARN WebPix menu in the WordPress admin. Settings, bulk conversion, storage and maintenance tools are all on this dashboard.
- Choose WebP or AVIF and start a bulk conversion for your existing images.

Does this plugin require an account?
No. The plugin works locally without an account.
Does the plugin send site data to ARN Smart or any other service?
No. The plugin sends no images or site data to ARN Smart or to any other service, and the Poppins font of the dashboard is included in the plugin. The only outbound requests are the "Test connection" and "Load models" buttons of the shared Settings > ARN Free AI screen, sent to the AI provider an administrator chose, when the administrator clicks them (see External services).
Which formats are supported?
JPG, JPEG and PNG images can be converted to WebP or AVIF. WebP needs WebP support in GD or ImageMagick; AVIF needs AVIF encoding support in GD (imageavif()) or ImageMagick on the server.
Can I set the AVIF quality?
No. AVIF copies use a fixed standard quality. The WebP quality can be set from 1 to 100.
Can I convert existing Media Library images?
Yes. Start a bulk conversion on the dashboard, or select images in the Media Library list view and use the "WebPix: convert" bulk action.
Does the plugin replace original images?
No. Original images are never changed. Optimized copies are stored separately.
What happens when I delete the plugin?
By default your settings, statistics, folders and copies are kept. To remove them, turn on "Delete plugin data on uninstall" on the dashboard before deleting the plugin; the copies in uploads/arn-image-optimizer are removed only if "Also delete the WebP/AVIF copies" is also on. Original images and data of other plugins are never removed. On Multisite every site follows its own choice. With "Delete plugin data on uninstall" on, the shared ARN Free AI settings, saved API keys and usage history of the sites where it is on are removed too, but only when no other installed ARN Free plugin (active or not) still uses them.
Is the plugin compatible with shared hosting environments?
Yes. Background conversion runs in small steps with a time budget, so it suits standard WordPress hosting.
