Do I need a Crumbler account?
Yes. The plugin is the connector to the Crumbler service; the consent banner, blocking and cookie declaration are provided by that service. You can start with a free trial at crumbler.ch.
Where do I find the Site Key?
In your Crumbler dashboard, under the respective site. It is a UUID in the format af232e06-59c2-4810-b09d-7a2b25632d1b.
Do I need to manually tag scripts?
No. The widget automatically detects third-party scripts based on provider patterns from the Crumbler database. You can also tag scripts manually:

Does the plugin support Google Consent Mode v2?
Yes. The widget sets gtag('consent', 'default', {...}) and updates the consent status after the user's decision.
How do I embed the cookie declaration?
Two options:
- Gutenberg block: add the "Cookie Declaration" block. The language can optionally be overridden in the block settings.
- Shortcode: use
[crumbler_cookies]on any page or post, optionally with a language parameter:[crumbler_cookies lang="fr"].
Where is the widget loaded?
As the very first element in <head>, before the scripts of other plugins and the theme. The widget can only block scripts that come after it. If your theme hard-codes a tracking snippet in header.php above wp_head(), move it below or let a plugin add it instead. The wp_head priority can be changed with the crumbler_cc_widget_priority filter.
Does it work with caching and optimisation plugins?
Yes. The widget script is marked so that WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache, Autoptimize, Jetpack Boost and Cloudflare Rocket Loader do not defer, delay or combine it. If you use another optimisation plugin, exclude cmp.compresso.ch/widget/cmp.min.js from "defer" and "delay JavaScript" there.
Can I hide the widget for administrators?
Yes. Under Settings > Crumbler there is an option to hide the widget for logged-in administrators.

<head>(before scripts of other plugins and the theme), so trackers such as Google Analytics, Tag Manager or Matomo are blocked before consent and Google Consent Mode defaults are set in time. - The widget script is excluded from JavaScript optimisation (defer, delay, combine) of WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache, Autoptimize, Jetpack Boost and Cloudflare Rocket Loader, which would otherwise load it too late.
