Document Embedder is a PDF viewer, document viewer and document library for WordPress. Embed a PDF in any post or page, show Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations inline, turn a PDF into a 3D flipbook, or build a searchable document library where visitors can view and download your files.
Upload files from your computer or the Media Library, or paste a link to a file on Google Drive, Dropbox, Box or any public URL. Choose from four viewers: the Google viewer for Office files, a fast local PDF.js viewer, an interactive 3D FlipBook, or a slider. Every viewer is responsive on desktop, tablet and mobile.
Add documents with the Gutenberg block, the dedicated Elementor widget, or a shortcode in any page builder. Built-in Insights show how many people viewed, read and downloaded each document.

- Shortcodes:
[doc id="123"]for a document and[document_library id="123"]for a library. They work in the Classic Editor, Divi, Bricks, WPBakery, Beaver Builder, Oxygen, Breakdance and any builder that supports shortcodes. - Document post type: every document is saved as its own post, so you can manage and reuse it anywhere.
- Views and daily unique views: every viewer and file type (PDF in the Default/Google, Custom PDF, Flipbook and Slider viewers, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, images, video, Google Drive and Dropbox links), whether it is embedded with the block, the Saved Document block, the shortcode or the Elementor widget. A view counts once the document has been at least half on screen for a second. A lightbox document counts when its lightbox is opened.
- Time on screen: how long a document was visible in an open browser tab, for every viewer and file type.
- Downloads: counted when the file is delivered for saved documents and Media Library files. For a pasted external URL, counted when the download button is used. In a Document Library, counted when a visitor clicks Download.
- Full-screen use: the full-screen or open-in-new-tab button on the plugin toolbar of the Custom PDF viewer.
- Leads and conversion rate: leads for saved documents, compared with their views.
- List and editor: a "Views today" column on the Documents list and today's figures in each document's Download Stats box.
- document-embedder/list-documents: your documents with file type, viewer, shortcode, tags, downloads and leads.
- document-embedder/get-document: one document's settings and the pages that embed it.
- document-embedder/get-download-stats: lifetime downloads and leads, and downloads in any date range.
- document-embedder/list-leads: download leads. Off until you switch on "Allow AI agents to read leads".

- Date ranges: today, the last 7, 30 or 90 days, or any range you pick.

- Per-document view: open any document to see its own figures and daily chart for the range you pick.
- CSV export: download the figures for any range.
- Table layout: a sortable table of documents. Visitors click a column header to sort, and you choose, reorder and hide columns (icon, name, type, size, date, author, folder, description and actions). Includes striped rows, page numbers and a card view on phones.
- Folder layout: organise files into folders and subfolders (up to 3 levels). Visitors browse with folder tiles or a sidebar tree, follow a breadcrumb, and search across every folder at once.
- Link to a folder: send visitors straight to one folder with a link.
- Group by folder: group the List layout by folder, or add a Folder column to the Table layout.
- Unlimited documents in every library.
- Email gate for downloads: ask for a name and email before a file is released, and turn any PDF into a lead magnet.
- Leads dashboard and CSV export: every submission is logged. Search it, filter it and export it to CSV in one click.
- View access control: show a document only to logged-in users or chosen user roles, with your own message for everyone else. Blocked visitors never receive the file link.
- Download access control: allow downloads only for logged-in users or specific roles.
- Secure document delivery: serve local PDFs through a signed, expiring link instead of exposing the file URL.
- Disable popout: stop visitors opening the document in a new window.
- Interactive overlays: place notes, highlights, links and call-to-action buttons on any page of a PDF. They stay aligned at every zoom level.
- Flipbook controls: hard covers, page-turn sound, auto play with your own interval, single or double page mode, page-turn speed and the 3D book's page edge colour.
- Lightbox popup: open a document in a popup from a button, an image or any element on the page.

- Open any post or page and click +.
- Search for Document Embed and add the block.
- Upload a file, pick one from the Media Library, or paste a Google Drive, Dropbox, Box or other link.
- Choose a viewer and adjust the size, toolbar and download button in the sidebar.
- Publish.
- Edit the page with Elementor and search the widget panel for Document Embedder.
- Drag the widget onto the page.
- Choose Document and pick the file, then set the width, height and style.
- Go to Document Embedder > Add New Document, upload your file and save.

Requirements: WordPress 6.5 or newer and PHP 7.1 or newer. AI Agent Access needs WordPress 6.9 or newer.
You can install the Document Embedder plugin in three ways.
From the WordPress Dashboard (recommended)
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Go to Plugins > Add New Plugin.
- Search for "Document Embedder" (developed by bPlugins).
- Click Install Now.
- After installation, click Activate.
- Download the Document Embedder plugin (document-emberdder.zip).
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Go to Plugins > Add New.
- Click Upload Plugin.
- Select the document-emberdder.zip file and click Install Now.
- Activate the plugin after installation.
- Download the Document Embedder plugin.
- Extract the zip file.
- Upload the document-emberdder folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory using FTP or File Manager.
- Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard.
- Go to Plugins > Installed Plugins.
- Activate Document Embedder from the plugins list.
- Add the Document Embed block to any post or page, or go to Document Embedder > Add New Document to create a reusable document with its own shortcode.
- Upload a PDF or Office file, pick one from the Media Library, or paste a Google Drive, Dropbox or Box link.
- Choose a viewer (Google, PDF.js, Flipbook or Slider) and publish.
- To list many files, go to Document Embedder > Document Library and create a library.
- Check Document Embedder > Insights to see today's views and downloads. Adjust counting, excluded roles and data retention in Settings > Insights.

How do I embed a PDF in WordPress?
Add the Document Embed block to a post or page, then upload your PDF or pick it from the Media Library. You can also use the Elementor widget, or create a document under Document Embedder > Add New Document and paste its [doc id="123"] shortcode anywhere. The PDF appears in a responsive viewer that visitors can read without downloading.
Can I embed Word, Excel and PowerPoint files?
Yes. DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, PPT and PPTX files are shown inline with the Google viewer, along with Google Docs, images, code files and 16+ other formats.
Can visitors read a document without downloading it?
Yes. That is what the plugin is for. The download button is optional: hide it, or keep it and choose whether it saves the file or opens it in a new tab.
How do I create a document library or file download page?
Go to Document Embedder > Document Library > Add New Library, choose a layout, add your files and save. Show it with the Document Library block, the Elementor widget or the [document_library id="123"] shortcode. Visitors can search, filter by file type, sort, view and download.
Which library layouts are included?
Grid and List are free. Table (sortable columns) and Folder (folders and subfolders) are included in Pro. You can switch layouts at any time without losing your files or settings, and existing libraries keep their current look.
Does it work with Elementor?
Yes. Document Embedder has its own Elementor widget. Search for Document Embedder in the widget panel, then choose a document or a library and style it right in Elementor.
Does it work with Divi, Bricks, WPBakery and other page builders?
Yes. Paste the [doc id="123"] or [document_library id="123"] shortcode into any builder that supports shortcodes.
Can I embed files from Google Drive, Dropbox or Box?
Yes. Paste the public link to the file. Box shared links open in Box's own viewer. With Pro you can also browse your Google Drive, Dropbox and Box accounts and pick files directly.
Can I turn a PDF into a flipbook?
Yes, for free. Choose the Flipbook viewer and a Flip Style: 3D, Soft or Flat. Flipbooks work with PDF files only. Flipbooks you created before Flip Style existed keep their current look until you change it. Pro adds hard covers, page-turn sound, auto play, single or double page mode, page-turn speed and the 3D page edge colour.
Can I see how many people view my documents?
Yes. Document Embedder > Insights counts views, daily unique views, downloads, full-screen use and time on screen for every embedded document and Document Library file, anonymously. The free version shows today's figures. Pro adds date ranges, a daily chart, top documents, top host pages, a per-document view and CSV export, reading back every day recorded since you updated.
Is Insights GDPR friendly?
Insights counts anonymously. It sets no cookies and stores no IP addresses. You can exclude user roles, choose how long data is kept, reset the data or turn counting off in Settings > Insights.
Can AI assistants like Claude or ChatGPT read my documents?
Yes, if you allow it. Document Embedder registers read-only abilities with the WordPress Abilities API (WordPress 6.9+), so AI assistants connected through the WordPress MCP Adapter can list documents and read download stats and today's Insights. Leads are shared only if you opt in. They can never change anything. Turn it off in Settings > AI Agent Access.
Will updating change my existing flipbooks or libraries?
No. Existing flipbooks keep their current page turn and existing libraries keep their layout until you change them.
Can I limit how many times someone can download a file?
Yes, in the free version. Set a download limit per visitor, and optionally show the download count next to the button.
How does the email gate work?
With Pro, visitors enter their name and email before a download starts. Every submission is saved to the Leads dashboard, where you can search, filter by date or document, and export to CSV.
Can I restrict documents to logged-in users?
Yes, with Pro. You can limit viewing, downloading or both to logged-in users or to specific user roles. Visitors without access never receive the file link.
How many documents can I add?
As many as you like. In the free version, each document library holds up to 5 documents; Pro removes that limit.
What is the maximum file size?
Documents up to 20 MB display reliably.
Which browsers are supported?
All modern browsers on desktop and mobile, including Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge.
Does it work with TutorLMS?
Yes. Document Embedder is confirmed to work with TutorLMS.
Where do I report security bugs found in this plugin?
Please report security bugs found in the source code of the Document Embedder plugin through the Patchstack Vulnerability Disclosure Program. The Patchstack team will assist you with verification, CVE assignment, and notify the developers of this plugin.
