IMG Alt Gen Pro connects your WordPress site to the IMG Alt Gen SaaS, a hosted service that generates descriptive, accessibility-friendly alt text for your images using AI. The plugin adds tools in the Media Library and a dedicated “AI Alt Text” admin area so you can:

Generate alt text for individual images directly from the attachment screen.
Run bulk generation over batches of media items.
Prioritise images actually used on published content.
Use optional context from posts, products and SEO plugins to improve descriptions.

This plugin is an interface to an external service and requires an IMG Alt Gen account with tokens to generate alt text. Core image generation happens on IMG Alt Gen’s servers, not inside WordPress. How it works

Install and activate the plugin.
Link your WordPress site to your IMG Alt Gen account using a secure token.
From the Media Library or AI Alt Text screens, choose which images to process.
The plugin sends the relevant data to the IMG Alt Gen API, receives generated alt text, and stores it in _wp_attachment_image_alt.

Data sent to the external service No data is sent to IMG Alt Gen until:

You explicitly link your site to an IMG Alt Gen account, and
You trigger an action that requires the service (e.g. checking tokens, generating alt text, syncing account status).

When you run a generation, the plugin may send:

Image URL or image bytes (for better AI support across multiple providers).
Basic site/context info, such as:
Attachment title.
Related post/product titles and taxonomies.
Optional SEO context (e.g. focus keyphrase, SEO titles/descriptions) if you enable those integrations.

Does this track users or add front-end scripts?

No. The plugin runs entirely in the WordPress admin and does not inject tracking scripts or front-end widgets. After you link an account, it contacts the IMG Alt Gen API only to perform requested operations (token checks, generation, account sync).

Is this trialware?

No. This plugin is a full interface to a paid Software as a Service (SaaS). The actual AI generation is provided by the external service (IMG Alt Gen). The plugin itself is free and open-source; usage of the external service is billed according to your IMG Alt Gen plan.

What data is sent when generating alt text?

When you run a generation, the plugin may send:

The image URL and/or the image bytes (for better AI performance).
Attachment title and basic metadata.
Optional context from the related post or product (title, categories/tags, product details).
Optional SEO context if you have explicitly enabled integration with supported SEO plugins.

Can I choose which images to process?

Yes. You can:

Generate alt text for a single image from its attachment edit screen.
Use bulk tools to process a batch of images.
Optionally focus on images that are actually used in published content.

Can this overwrite existing alt text?

By default, the plugin is careful not to overwrite non-empty alt attributes. If you enable options that allow overwriting (for example, to replace placeholder alt text on product images), the behaviour will follow those settings.

Does this work with WooCommerce?

Yes. When enabled, the plugin can use WooCommerce product data as context so the generated alt text is more specific (brand, product name, style, etc.). You can still run it on standard post/page images without WooCommerce.

Does this work with my SEO plugin?

Where possible, the plugin can read context from popular SEO plugins (titles, focus keyphrases, etc.) to provide better hints to the AI model. This is optional and can be toggled in the settings.

What happens if I run out of tokens?

If your IMG Alt Gen account has no remaining tokens, the API will refuse further generation requests. The plugin will show a clear message in the admin UI and link you back to your IMG Alt Gen account to top up.

How do I completely remove data from my site?

Deactivating the plugin stops all communication with IMG Alt Gen.\ If you delete the plugin, the uninstall routine can remove stored options and cached data, depending on your settings. Image alt text stored in _wp_attachment_image_alt is standard WordPress data and will remain unless you remove it manually.
