ODD turns your WordPress admin into a customizable desktop you actually want to spend time in.
WordPress does not have to feel like a plain control panel. With ODD and WP Desktop Mode, your admin can become a little digital room: a place with wallpaper, personality, favorite tools, charming desk toys, and a shop full of strange little upgrades.
ODD is made by Nick Hamze. Visit
https://weirdpress.com/odd to learn more or try it in Playground.
Open the ODD Shop, pick what feels right, and make the workspace yours.
With ODD you can:
- Add living wallpapers that make your desktop feel alive.
- Dress up your Desktop Mode dock, taskbar, and desktop icons with themed raster icon sets.
- Swap in custom cursors that match the mood.
- Drop tiny widgets onto the desktop, like notes, toys, embeds, and little desk companions.
- Install small desktop apps that open in their own windows.
- Start with a ready-made starter pack, then customize from there.
ODD is for people who live in WordPress all day and want it to feel less like rented office furniture and more like their own place.
Maybe your WordPress should be calm and cozy. Maybe it should be weird and neon. Maybe it should look like a tiny operating system from a dream. ODD gives you the pieces and lets you decorate.
1.1.4
ODD 1.1.4 improves Desktop Mode 0.8.8 compatibility for dock badges, attention states, and the optional compact rail.
- Badge and attention updates now forward through Desktop Mode dock, taskbar, desktop icon, and ODD compact rail controllers when those surfaces are available.
- The optional ODD compact rail keeps app shortcuts scrollable while system tiles stay pinned, matching Desktop Mode 0.8.8 dock behavior more closely.
- The Desktop Mode 0.8.8 support boundary is documented, including host-owned WP Guidelines sticky notes staying with Desktop Mode until a public sticky-note API exists.
1.1.3
ODD 1.1.3 tightens the current Desktop Mode integration path and refreshes the public release docs and Playground pins.
- Hide-admin-bar now works with WP Desktop Mode 0.8.6's stronger shell CSS and removes the leftover top offset.
- The dev Playground seeds the hidden admin-bar preference on first boot, matching the intended full desktop shell.
- Stable Playground links now install ODD 1.1.3 with WP Desktop Mode 0.8.6 and fresh cache-busting keys.
- Sticky Note uses Desktop Mode's native widget frame more cleanly, with larger default sizing and tighter resize behavior.
- Shop install progress no longer emits an unregistered
wpd-progress-bar custom element warning.
- ODD keeps Playground's root service worker protected while letting Desktop Mode own normal service-worker behavior.
1.1.2
ODD 1.1.2 fixes first-install Desktop Mode refresh behavior so starter content becomes visible without requiring a browser refresh.
- ODD's Desktop Mode wallpaper and Shop window now register through a small live bootstrap handle that can load the full ODD runtime during Desktop Mode's mid-session refresh.
- The bootstrap applies the starter wallpaper, large dock, and ODD launcher visibility through Desktop Mode's native settings API when the current desktop is still on the default wallpaper.
- The ODD Shop native window now advertises its stylesheet to Desktop Mode's lazy loader, so mid-session activation gets styled Shop chrome immediately.
1.1.1
ODD 1.1.1 is a stability release for catalog freshness, Shop teardown cleanup, and the current bundled catalog baseline.
- Catalog refreshes now invalidate the runtime catalog cache immediately, so the Shop stops showing old rows after a successful remote refresh or repair.
- The Shop highlight timer is guarded during teardown, fixing the lingering async handle that could make CI report Vitest cleanup failures.
- Refreshed bundled catalog metadata, app/widget presentation, Tiny Aquarium sizing, and game app card/icon polish from the post-1.1.0 catalog updates.
- Updated the stable Playground/readme links for the next pinned WordPress.org release package.
1.1.0
ODD 1.1.0 makes the desktop experience feel more native, more polished, and more fun.
- Apps, widgets, taskbar entries, desktop shortcuts, wallpaper controls, and decoration reset actions now work more cleanly with WP Desktop Mode's native surfaces.
- App icons can appear on the desktop immediately after install or placement changes.
- The Shop has more consistent catalog cards, clearer install/open/apply states, refreshed card art, and better app presentation.
- Added the Don't Read the Comments Minesweeper-style desktop app.
- Refreshed the default desktop icon set, including the custom recycle-bin icon treatment.
- Added living cursor effect packs and stricter icon/cursor validation.
- Improved signed catalog checks, cached fallback behavior, repair flows, and catalog health details.
- Added
window.__odd.sdk for extension authors and updated window.__odd.api.version to 2.4.0.
- Kept diagnostics local-only with no telemetry, analytics, license checks, or remote error reporting.
