functions.php by
hand or buying a large German-market suite for the sake of one feature.
This plugin does that one thing. You pick PDF files from your media library, tick the
WooCommerce emails each file belongs to, and they are attached from then on.
What it does
Any PDF in your media library. Common ones are the terms and conditions with the customer information (AGB und Kundeninformationen), the cancellation policy with the model withdrawal form (Widerrufsbelehrung mit Muster-Widerrufsformular) and the privacy policy. You can assign each document to one or more emails, for example only the order confirmation, or the invoice and the new-account email as well.
Any email your shop provides. The plugin reads the list from WooCommerce instead of hardcoding it, so emails added by other extensions are available automatically.
Both are full German-market suites and both put this feature behind a paid tier. Germanized offers legal PDF attachments in its Pro version only; German Market includes it inside a licence for the whole suite. If you already run one of those and pay for it, you do not need this plugin. This plugin exists for the shop that wants exactly this one capability and does not want to buy, configure and maintain a suite to get it. It is free, it is single-purpose, and there is no paid tier that unlocks the feature you came for.
There is a paid add-on, Opuswerk Legal PDFs Pro, for shops that also want a record of what was sent: which file went out with which order email, when and in which version, with a copy of each version to download again. Everything this plugin does stays free and complete without it. Details: https://opuswerk.at/plugins/legal-pdfs-pro/
Yes, once you switch it on under "Name the documents in the email" on the same tab. A sentence under the order details then names every attached file, for example: "The following documents are attached to this email as PDF files: agb.pdf and widerruf.pdf." Customers see file names, not titles, so give your PDFs clear names. You can write your own sentence and add a link to a free PDF reader. New installs start with it switched on. Shops that update from 1.0.x keep their emails exactly as they were until they switch it on.
No, and no plugin can. It attaches the files you choose to the emails you choose. Whether your documents are correct, current and sufficient is between you and your legal advisor.
Go to WooCommerce, then Settings, then the "Legal attachments" tab. Choose "Add PDF" to pick a file from your media library, tick the emails it should go out with, and save.
The email is still sent, without that attachment, and a warning is written to the
WooCommerce log under WooCommerce, Status, Logs, with the
source opuswerk-legal-pdfs. Order emails are never delayed or blocked by a document problem.
Mail providers apply their own attachment size limits, and large attachments make delivery less reliable. When the documents attached to one email exceed 2 MB in total, the settings screen says so. It is advice, not a restriction, and you can save and send anyway.
Yes. The plugin declares compatibility with both High-Performance Order Storage and the block checkout. It works with the classic checkout too, because it hooks into WooCommerce's email layer rather than the checkout.
No. The plugin makes no external requests of its own.
