Installing "Pixelgrade Assistant" can be done either by searching for "Pixelgrade Assistant" via the
Plugins → Add New screen in your WordPress dashboard, or by using the following steps:
- Download the plugin via WordPress.org.
- Upload the ZIP file through the
Plugins → Add New → Uploadscreen in your WordPress dashboard. - Activate the plugin through the
Pluginsmenu in WordPress. - Head over to
Pixelgradeand set things up.

Do I need a Pixelgrade.com account or a license?
No. Pixelgrade Assistant works fully without an account or a license. You can install the recommended free plugins, import starter content, and use the dashboard with no connection at all. Connecting an account is optional and only adds extras like cloud starter content and premium support.
What is Pixelgrade Plus?
Pixelgrade Plus is the optional premium companion for the Pixelgrade LT stack — advanced design tools that build on everything in the free stack. You can keep using the free stack indefinitely; Plus is there if you want more. Learn more at pixelgrade.com.
I'm already using Pixelgrade Care — will this conflict?
No. If Pixelgrade Care (our legacy companion for premium themes) is active, Pixelgrade Assistant detects it and stays out of the way — it does not load a second dashboard or touch your existing license. Your current setup keeps working exactly as before. New LT-stack sites use Pixelgrade Assistant, with Pixelgrade Plus as the optional premium path.
How do I turn the AI assistant endpoint off completely?
Add this to a small plugin or your theme's functions.php:
add_filter( 'pixelgrade/mcp/enabled', '__return_false' );
That is a full withdrawal rather than a locked door: the endpoint is never registered, so there is no route to reach, and no operation is offered to any caller. The rest of the plugin — the dashboard, Site Setup, starter content and the WP-CLI commands — is unaffected. The endpoint also stays completely inactive on WordPress older than 6.9 whether or not you use this filter.
Is this plugin tracking me?
Pixelgrade Assistant does not perform advertising, cross-site, or event-level behavioral tracking. The first-party services required for configuration, documentation, design assets, and starter content automatically retain your canonical site URL and the minimal operational context listed in the External services section. They do not receive your site content, credentials, license hashes, support messages, email address, user name, or IP address as part of the site registry.

- New: run the Assistant from the command line —
wp pixelgrade assistlists and imports starter sites, lists and applies recipes, and resets imported starter content, with human-readable tables or machine-readable JSON/YAML output. - New: an optional endpoint lets an AI assistant you authorise read your design system, block inventory and starter catalog, and apply a small, reviewed set of changes. It is closed by default: only a reviewed list of operations is ever exposed, the caller must be a logged-in WordPress user with editing rights, each operation still enforces its own stricter permission, and anything that changes or removes content must be confirmed explicitly. It needs WordPress 6.9 or newer; on older versions this part of the plugin stays completely inactive and everything else works as before.
- New: a bundled operating guide documents both surfaces, so an assistant works from the same rules the plugin enforces instead of guessing.
- Site Setup now places rows contributed by companion plugins where they belong in the list, so an independently updated companion can slot in without waiting for an Assistant release.
- Starter import, starter reset and recipe apply now refuse to run without an explicit confirmation on the machine paths, and accept starter sources only over
https. - Clearer failure reporting throughout the new command paths: every outcome carries a stable code, a plain-language summary and any warnings, and a partly-completed import is reported as such rather than as a success.
- New: the
pixelgrade/mcp/enabledfilter turns the assistant endpoint off completely — return false and it is never registered at all, so there is no route to reach. Everything else in the plugin is unaffected. See the FAQ. - The reviewed list of operations the endpoint may expose is sixteen: twelve that only read, and four that change something. Two of them are Pixelgrade Plus features, so on a site without Plus they never register and what the endpoint offers is unchanged.
- Fix: the starter importer's internal slug lookup now uses a prepared database statement.
- Fix: the plugin's text domain is now its slug,
pixelgrade-assistant. The previous value was not a valid text domain, so WordPress.org translations could never be delivered; they can be now. - Four dashboard card titles loaded a small decorative image from a remote server. They now use the character directly, so the dashboard renders from the plugin alone.
- WordPress 7.1 compatibility: updated editor controls to use current core component defaults, restored the documentation toolbar launcher, and verified the Assistant hub, documentation window, and editor integrations.
- Pixelgrade Plus discovery links from the Assistant hub now carry stable campaign attribution so their contribution can be measured.
- Starter imports now preserve every saved, schema-backed Style Manager choice, including motion settings that remain dormant until Pixelgrade Plus is licensed.
- Fix: invalid range and choice artifacts left by earlier or interrupted imports are repaired after import without disturbing reset or undo state.
- Fix: Pile LT now imports its placeholder and source media, inline images, site logo, project templates, template parts, and footer reliably—even when old markup carries a stale attachment ID.
- Fix: imported pages retain their assigned block templates when the matching template is imported later in the starter process.
- A redesigned first-run Home and starter apply flow makes choosing a design, following progress, and continuing after completion clearer.
- Updated the WordPress JavaScript toolchain and patched dependency vulnerabilities.
- Starter Sites imports are more resilient to undeclared commerce content, unavailable layout units, media edge cases, and interrupted full-site runs.
- The starter composer now opens with the Full site preset, explains re-applying inline, shows useful feature tags, and offers clear next steps after a successful apply.
- Fix: canonical plugin installs are preferred over renamed backups, and account/theme configuration stays safe during early WordPress bootstrap.
- New onboarding: an essentials-first Site Setup checklist can install or activate Anima LT, Style Manager, and Nova Blocks from one place.
- Design previews: Styles now shows live, site-specific color and typography previews that refresh with Style Manager changes.
- Companion extensions: new contributed sections for Styles and Setup, plus setup-readiness checks that participate in the overall status.
