ICON SL - Smart AI Search adds an advanced semantic search experience to WordPress websites.
Without an API key, searches fall back to the default local WordPress search behavior. To use Smart AI Search as intended, connect your ICON SL API key so the plugin can index public site content and return AI-powered semantic results.

- Download the plugin.
- Upload the
smart-ai-searchfolder towp-content/plugins/. - Activate the plugin in WordPress.
- Open
Smart AI Searchin the admin menu. - Add shortcode
[iconslsas_search]to a page, or use the admin button to create the search page. - Add your ICON SL API key to enable semantic indexing and AI-powered results.
- (Optional) Enable Smart AI Search as your main search engine in plugin settings.

Do I need to connect the external service?
Yes, if you want the advanced Smart AI Search behavior. Without an API key, the search interface falls back to local WordPress search results.
What does "Reindex" do?
It refreshes the semantic search index so content changes can appear in AI-powered results. Reindexing requires a connected API key. Local WordPress search does not use this index.
Can I keep the classic WordPress search?
Yes. Classic WordPress search remains available. If the API key is not connected, the plugin automatically uses local WordPress results.
