Install and activate the plugin.
Open Voice Agent: the dashboard shows the four setup steps. Then open Voice Agent > Settings.
AI model: choose a provider, follow the steps to get a key, paste it, and press Test connection. On WordPress 7.0 or later you can instead choose WordPress AI connection to use the provider you connected under Settings > Connectors.
Knowledge: add your business, services, prices and common questions.
Alerts: choose where new leads go and send a test.
Look & placement: the floating button is on by default. Drag it where you want it, or place the block, widget, menu button or shortcode.

Until an AI provider is set up, only administrators see the agent.

Is this a free AI chatbot for WordPress?

Yes. The plugin is free and complete, with no locked features. With a free AI model (OpenRouter, Groq or Google Gemini's free tier) it costs nothing to run. With a paid provider you pay that provider directly for what you use.

Can it work as an AI receptionist and book appointments?

Yes. Choose "Local service or appointments" on the Knowledge tab: the agent asks what the visitor needs, where and when, collects a phone number or email, confirms the details and saves the appointment request, then alerts you by email, Telegram or n8n.

How does it know what my site sells?

Choose your kind of site on the Knowledge tab (a shop, a local service, an agency, a blog...) and press Learn from my site: it reads your pages and your shop and proposes what the agent should know. You check it, change anything, and save. With WooCommerce, the agent searches your live products during the chat, so new products and prices are used straight away.

Is it a WooCommerce chatbot?

Yes. In a WooCommerce store it searches your live products during the chat and shows them as cards with the price, stock and an Add to cart button.

Does it take payments?

No. In a shop it adds products to the cart, and customers pay at your own checkout. For a service it saves a booking or appointment request and alerts you.

Can I use OpenAI, Google Gemini, Claude or DeepSeek?

Yes. Choose OpenAI (GPT), Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, DeepSeek, Groq, OpenRouter or any OpenAI-compatible service on the AI model tab, paste the key and press Test connection. You can switch at any time.

Which AI model should I choose?

To try it, start with a free one, such as Groq's free plan. For a business site, a low-cost paid model such as DeepSeek Flash is a good place to start. Test a few with your own questions and keep the one that suits you; you can switch at any time.

Can it use the AI I connected in WordPress?

Yes, on WordPress 7.0 or later. Connect a provider (for example Google, OpenAI or Anthropic) under Settings > Connectors, then choose WordPress AI connection on the AI model tab. WordPress keeps the key; the plugin never sees it. Leave the model on Automatic and a fast model is chosen for you.

Is there a Pro version?

Voice Agent Pro is being built as a separate add-on: WhatsApp and Messenger, natural voices, calendar booking, payments in the chat and tools for agencies. Everything in this plugin stays free and keeps working without it. The Pro page in the plugin lists what is planned.

Does voice cost anything?

No. Speech is handled by the visitor's browser, not by a paid speech service. Only the text of the conversation goes to your AI provider.

Which browsers support voice?

Chrome, Edge and Safari on computers and phones. In other browsers the text chat works as normal. Your site must use HTTPS for the microphone.

The microphone does not work on my site.

Check that the site uses HTTPS. Some security plugins or hosts send a Permissions-Policy header that blocks the microphone; it must allow microphone=(self).

Where are leads stored?

In your own WordPress database, under Voice Agent > Leads, with the conversation that led to them. You can set a status, add notes and export them as CSV.

How do I put the button in my header?

Classic themes: choose a menu location under Look & placement, or add the "Voice Agent" item in Appearance > Menus. Block themes: drag the "Voice Agent Button" block into the header in Appearance > Editor.

Does it work with Elementor and other page builders?

Yes. Add the shortcode [softvoltai_voice_agent] with the builder's shortcode element, or any button with the CSS class svava-open.

Does it work with caching plugins?

Yes. The chat endpoint needs no nonce, so cached pages keep working. If an optimisation plugin removes footer scripts, set "Load the script in" to Header.

My security plugin turns off the REST API for visitors.

The agent notices and switches to admin-ajax.php automatically.

Can I send leads to Google Sheets, a CRM or WhatsApp?

Yes, through n8n, Make or Zapier. Turn on the webhook on the Alerts tab. The n8n tab has a ready-made workflow and a free hosting guide.
