Webcam Microphone Screen Recorder - Media Capture

For guest visitors, this plugin sets an essential HttpOnly browser-session cookie on frontend visits to protect recording sessions. Guest recording requires cookies, and recording pages should not be served from a shared cache. Create video, audio, screen recordings, photos and screenshots directly in WordPress. Authors and administrators can preview, record, review and upload browser-captured media to the Media Library, then use it in posts or publish video through Video Share VOD. Benefits

Quick setup and creator workspace Open Media Capture > Quick setup for enabled capture modes, Media Library integration, standalone WordPress destinations and review/direct publication presets. Preview shows the concrete changes; Save applies only those settings. Advanced settings and optional Video Share VOD, Picture Gallery, MicroPayments and comment-recording integrations are linked from the same screen. No plugin is installed or activated automatically. Use [videowhisper_creator_media] for a signed-in creator workspace with file upload, webcam video, microphone audio, screen recording, webcam photos and screenshots. The enabled capture modes and existing recorder access policy still apply, and Media Library upload permission is required. Optional destinations use their native content models and permissions: video in Video Share VOD, images in Picture Gallery, audio downloads in MicroPayments. Standalone WordPress post destinations remain available when enabled. Review is the default. Accepting a capture retains the original in Media Library; Save draft sends it to the selected native editor. In explicitly selected direct mode, accepting a capture can also save and publish when the destination is ready and the creator has native publication permission. File uploads still require the save button. Direct mode does not grant permissions, change prices or approve public samples. A source has one durable destination. The first saved destination, title, description and publication mode remain attached to that attempt; retries check for the existing item without automatically creating or publishing again. An unfinished attempt remains available for manual review. Existing recorder shortcodes, editor capture and legacy VOD import settings retain their behavior. The new creator workspace does not invoke that legacy auto-import path. The shared workspace accepts permitted video, audio and image files up to the smaller of 100 MB and the site's upload limit. WordPress and network file-type settings still apply. Images are checked before metadata generation. Originals are retained, and destination plugins manage their own copies. Media Library files and ordinary WordPress post media are not protected paid storage; review the destination's delivery and access configuration before selling private content. Browser Recorder

How to Use the Recorder Choose the enabled capture type in Settings or shortcode attributes. Allow the requested camera, microphone or screen permission, check the preview and start recording. Review the result, then accept it to save it to WordPress or discard it and try again. The browser supplies a compatible media format, and Video Share VOD can process accepted video when its integration is enabled. M4A audio uses WordPress's standard audio MIME mapping. WordPress still checks the uploaded file, and a multisite network must permit the m4a extension. The plugin does not enable a blocked format or change network settings. WordPress Editor and Media Library Integration When Media Library integration is enabled, users with permission to upload files can capture and use media without leaving the WordPress workflow:

• Classic editor: Capture Media appears beside Add Media. It opens the standard WordPress media dialog directly on the Capture Media tab.
• Add Media dialog: Capture Media is available alongside Upload Files and Media Library. Choose any enabled capture format, accept the result, then use WordPress's normal insert control.
• Block editor: Capture Media is available from the editor menu. After choosing the captured attachment, it inserts an Image, Audio, Video or File block as appropriate.
• Media Library: Capture Media appears beside Add New. After accepting a capture, the new attachment is selected in the dialog; choose Use captured media to open it in the library.
• Post association: Captures made while editing an existing post or page are attached to that content when the user has permission to edit it.

The Capture Media tab only displays the formats enabled in Settings > Integrations: Webcam Video, Microphone Audio, Screen Capture, Webcam Photo and Screenshot. It also includes links to the plugin information and VideoWhisper developer assistance. Additional Editor Integrations All standard WordPress post and custom-post-type edit screens use the same Media Library integration automatically. Some plugins instead provide their own admin route and JavaScript editor. These can opt in from Settings > Integrations > Editor integration without a plugin-specific code integration. Tutor LMS Course Builder at admin.php?page=create-course is an exception when the dedicated VideoWhisper Video for Tutor LMS addon is active: that addon owns the media frames and capture shortcuts automatically, so this generic integration yields to it. If the addon is not active, the generic opt-in remains available:

1. Enter the plugin page slug in Additional admin editor pages. For Tutor LMS without the dedicated addon, enter create-course.
2. Set Content ID URL parameters to the query parameter used by that editor. The default includes post, post_id and course_id, which covers Tutor LMS course editing.
3. The configured page must use WordPress's standard wp.media() dialog. Its existing media controls will then also show the Capture Media tab and receive the captured attachment through the normal selection flow.

For frontend content, use [videowhisper_recorder] on the intended page or form. This is an explicit frontend opt-in and continues to respect the recorder access settings; the plugin does not inject capture controls into arbitrary public pages. App choice and integrations Use [videowhisper_recorder] for the selected recorder app. The bundled browser recorder uses a local WordPress REST upload and creates a Media Library attachment. It is suitable for video-post and VOD source capture and exposes the videowhisper-recorder:saved browser event after a successful upload for custom post, paid-content and reaction-recording adapters. Its event result includes metadata.attachmentId, metadata.attachment (ID, title, MIME type and URL), and metadata.mediaLibraryUrl when an attachment was created. The [videowhisper_html5recorder] shortcode remains available for existing HTML5 Videochat workflows. With the browser recorder selected, enable Video, Audio, Screen Capture, Photo and Screenshot buttons from Settings > Integrations. Use mode="audio", mode="screen", mode="photo" or mode="screenshot" to show one enabled type, modes="video,audio" for a subset, and direct_preview="1" to skip the introductory Continue screen. The recorder adapts its camera presentation to landscape or portrait use, supports available camera and microphone switching, and provides a review step before upload. Settings adapt to the selected recorder application. Select HTML5 Videochat recorder (legacy) when an existing Videochat workflow requires it. Recommended Hosting Although recording does not involve special hosting requirements (except ability to upload the HTML5 recorded files), processing the videos server side with VideoShareVOD or similar plugins requires FFmpeg. Human-readable recorder source and builds The bundled app is built from the public recorder source. It includes the dependency lock and build tools. From that revision run npm ci, npm run typecheck and npm run build; copy the browser IIFE and stylesheet as documented in recorder/BUILD.txt. The package's recorder/build-manifest.json records the exact source fingerprint, immutable revision, production transform and asset checksums. The public export contains the independently usable included app and no private extension implementation. Recorder limits and installed extensions The included recorder provides repeatable recording and upload functionality with a five-minute video/audio limit, a one-minute screen-recording limit, one accepted item per recorder instance, and a 100 MB app ceiling. Capture requests use up to a 640-pixel webcam long edge, 1280 by 720 screen video and a 1280-pixel photo/screenshot long edge; browsers retain final control of captured resolution. Lower site and network upload limits still apply. Accepted recordings can be saved without a subscription or license activation; there is no trial expiry or lifetime recording quota. Installed extensions can select a compatible local recorder app through the versioned videowhisper_recorder_app_assets_v1 filter and observe videowhisper_recorder_app_enqueued_v1. The public contract and example are included in recorder/EXTENSIONS.txt. Invalid selections fall back to the bundled app. The content, upload and permission handlers remain owned by this plugin; an alternative app does not grant rights or bypass host limits. No private extension implementation or remote executable loader is included.
