Display options for your Series information PublishPress Series allows you to add three different Series displays to your posts:
- Series Post List Boxes: This feature allows you to show all the posts in the current series. You can choose to show the post title, featured image, author, publishing date, and much more.
- Series Post Details: This display allows you to show where a post stands inside a series. The typical display will appear this way: "This entry is part 3 of 8 in the series How to Use WordPress".
- Series Post Navigation: This feature enables users to navigate the previous or next post in a series. There will be a Previous arrow and a Next arrow.

What does PublishPress Series do?
It makes it easier to write a series of posts and have them automatically linked together. One of the best ways to build an audience is to write short posts about the same subject over a period of time, rather than one long post, and there are SEO benefits to that as well. PublishPress Series takes the work out of organizing a series, so you write more and your readers can easily follow along.
How do I add a post to a series?
While you are writing the post. The Series metabox on the post editing screen lets you add the post to an existing series or start a new one, so you never have to leave the editor to organize a series.
Can I add a post to the middle of a series?
Yes. Choose the position you want and the plugin renumbers the rest of the series for you, so inserting a missing part does not mean editing every post that follows it.
How do I change the order of posts in a series?
Use the Publish Series screen, which lists every post in a series in one place and lets you reorder them there rather than post by post.
Can I publish or unpublish a whole series at once?
Yes, from the Publish Series screen, and it is in the free version. You can schedule the posts in a series to publish over time, or unpublish the whole series together.
What can I show readers on a post that is part of a series?
Three things, and you can use any combination of them:
- Series Post List Box — all the posts in the series, with the title, featured image, author and publishing date if you want them.
- Series Post Details — where this post sits in the series, reading like "This entry is part 3 of 8 in the series How to Use WordPress".
- Series Post Navigation — previous and next arrows for moving through the series.
Can I show a series in a block or a widget?
Yes. Two widgets come with the plugin: Series Table of Contents, which lists the parts of a series, and Latest Series, which shows recent series. Both work in a theme widget area or in the block editor. If you also use PublishPress Blocks, the Content Display block can pull in posts from a chosen series with more layout options.
Can I give a series its own image?
Yes. Series are managed on their own screen, where you can add, edit and delete them and upload or select an image for each one.
Can a post belong to more than one series?
Not in the free version, where a post belongs to one series. Adding a post to several series is a feature of PublishPress Series Pro.
Does it work with pages and custom post types?
The free version works with posts. Pages and custom post types are supported in PublishPress Series Pro, and a Pro series can even mix them — part 1 a post, part 2 a page, part 3 something else.
Does PublishPress Series use the WordPress taxonomy system?
Yes. PublishPress Series adds a "series" taxonomy and builds on the WordPress core API, so a series behaves like other taxonomy terms and works with the tools you already use.
Can I customize the archive page for series?
You can. Create a file called taxonomy-series.php, copy the code from your theme's archive.php as a starting point, and build from there. The orgSeries-template-tags.php file lists the template tags available for series.
Can I customize the archive page for a single series?
Yes. Create a file named taxonomy-series-{series-slug}.php, replacing {series-slug} with the slug of your series.
Can I create a page that lists every series?
Yes. The organize-series folder contains seriestoc.php, which is loaded at your series table of contents URL — /series-toc/ by default, and changeable on the series options page. The included file is a starting point rather than a finished design, so copy it into your theme folder and adjust it to match your theme, using your theme's archive page as a guide. You do not need to add any WordPress loop code to it.
